Azimuth Energy is an engineering, construction, and development support services company focused on the implementation of renewable energy and associated energy efficiency strategies. We are experts at innovative and creative solutions for solar energy, advanced technology microgrids, and energy efficiency integration. Building clean energy strategies into your business model is what we do.

Originally founded in 2009, our team has construction, energy, and renewable deployment experience dating back to the early 1990s. We are headquartered in St. Louis, MO with a strong team of experts who have engineered and constructed over 500 PV projects and 80 energy storage plants in the US and overseas.

At Azimuth Energy, we take great pride in being a cut above in our approach, understanding, and integration capabilities.  Our department leaders are all veterans of both the solar industry and general building construction. We entered the solar market and construction industry over 20 years ago, growing our experience by working with a variety of project teams from a single building owner to large teams with multiple engaged companies. We have performed all the key roles at the table and are comfortable in any position that makes sense for the owner.

Azimuth Energy’s mission is to help our clients improve the financial and environmental performance of their businesses. This means reducing their energy consumption and operating expenses, managing risk, improving their bottom line and the value of their property investment.

As a licensed Engineering Corporation, we are committed to delivering this mission through our professionalism, constant attention to detail, and maintaining a current understanding of industry best practices.  This process, along with our expertise as constructors, allows us to provide a variety of solutions in the design, development, and installation of distributed generation renewable energy systems and efficiency strategies.

At Azimuth Energy, we bring a laser focus on three key strategies for every project:SAFETY - our attention is not limited to construction risk and accidents alone; we target the elimination of long-term operational risk for the service life of the project.PERFORMANCE - engineered and constructed to deliver affordable, clean energy and power for the service life of the project; meeting performance guarantees, up-time expectations, and meeting or exceeding expected financial performance.AESTHETICS - because looks are important. Ask us how appearance affects safety, performance, and maintainability in very significant ways. Also, we find that most of our clients want to show off their project, and aesthetics matters.

Chicago’s Newest Solar Microgrid

Azimuth Energy has completed the engineering and construction of another complex microgrid. This project is on the campus of Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and it powers S.R. Crown Hall. Crown Hall is an architectural masterpiece designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and is both a Chicago Landmark (1997) and National Historic Landmark (2001). This unlikely home for a solar microgrid also is showcased in the Art Institute of Chicago for its design innovation and creativity...

Washington University 1.8 MW Rooftop Solar Project Includes Students

Is solar energy on the South 40 of Washington University in St. Louis feasible? To answer that one question, the members of RESET, a new program from the Office of Sustainability, had to ask hundreds more. Can the residential and office buildings of the South 40 support the weight of solar arrays?...

Solar Modules – Why Do Tilt And Orientation Matter?

Getting the answers right should be part of every design engineer’s Quality Assurance process. They also are important to the system owner, because in some ways the solar installer and the project owner may have opposing interests. And decisions driven by the wrong reasons can mean the difference between a project that successfully produces and meets expectations for decades, or doesn’t...

Modeling Storage In HOMER: Why Getting It Right Matters

Sizing the energy production and storage components of a microgrid makes a big difference in the performance of the system – both financially and from the perspective of keeping the lights on...

Design and Construction Challenges of a Private Microgrid in New England

Nestled in a wooded community is a microgrid that defies the usual value propositions. It’s an outlier of a project because microgrids are normally built for different reasons, such as to bring power in developing countries to people who depend on unreliable or non-existent grid infrastructure...

Senate Bill 564 Includes Solar Rebates

On June 1, 2018, Senate Bill 564 (SB 564) was signed into law. This modern energy legislation includes updates to Missouri's solar programs in the form of solar rebates and utility owned solar...

Why Use An Owners Agent

Make Sure Your Solar or Microgrid Project is Done Right! Our clients are all expert at operating and maintaining their own buildings and equipment. However, most of our clients do not have the in-house expertise to buy construction services or manage a construction project...

Build Solar Energy Now Or Later?

The short answer, for several reasons, is do it now! No amount of price reduction in solar panels will turn waiting into a good investment decision...

Meet Our Experts

March 2020 Letter from the President

Looking at last year in the rearview, we aren’t sure whether to call it the year of the PV Carport or the year of the PV+Battery Microgrid. There have been several of both types of specialized projects, along with our bread and butter of commercial/industrial rooftop PV and utility PV plants. It was a very busy year. We completed 5 PV Carport projects. Two on MasterCard’s campuses in St Louis and New York, one for ITC Holdings in Detroit, one for the IBEW at their Local-1 headquarters, and one in Basseterre, St. Kitts, for the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB)...
